Madeira<\/p>\n

We went in August so it was pretty warm and the spring flowers had long gone. The main things that stick in my mind are the rugged coast on one side of the island, windy roads and some lovely walks along the sides of drainage channels which may have been called levadas. These channels went out into wilds and we met older ladies carrying all their shopping back to their isolated homes along these channels. Sometimes there was quite a steep drop to one side.<\/p>\n
