Over Christmas I had detected a problem with my peripheral vision and in February 1980 was diagnosed as having a detached retina. The doctor sent me directly to Dover which had an eye unit in an old isolation hospital right on top of Noah’s Ark Road. Most of the patients were old people having cataract operations so when Margaret requested a tune on the hospital radio they made the mistake of saying it was for her father. Cheek!<\/p>\n

Margaret didn’t drive at the time so had to walk all the way from the railway station to the hospital for visiting time. They have since knocked the hospital building down but the steep road is still there. I said I would take you places.<\/p>\n
