My Place – East Kent

Tontine Street, FolkestoneIn May 2011 I read a blogpost by Jennifer Watts, a geographer, which was a response to a book describing each state in the US. She proposed a County by County journey through England.

I was inspired by this idea for a geo-story but it took some time before I actually wrote an account of what I feel about East Kent and what it means to me. It is anecdotal and personal rather than a researched and more formal, regional geography. There have been many other local book series that have tried to do that.

I heard Professor Danny Dorling say ‘anecdote is the singular of data’ so I have a good reason to take this approach.

I don’t think it’s psycho-geography. Or is it?
